I'm Penny Scott, and I founded Good Fridaze and have been alcohol-free (this time) since March 2024 after working in charity and NHS services as a recovery worker, specialising in support for 'hard to reach' populations and rough sleepers.
It was during these roles that I had a lightbulb moment: the classic definition of 'hard to reach' actually applied to far more people than just the populations I was supporting professionally. It applied to me and my friends too.
I watched my friends working across tech, advertising, recruitment, marketing and beyond, regularly drinking with colleagues without really having much knowledge about alcohol's impact. The stories we shared—unplanned taxi rides home, awkward conversations with bosses we barely remembered, grabbing greasy breakfasts on the commute to combat hangovers (when we actually made it to the office)—got me thinking seriously about our relationships with alcohol and work.
Who we are
So in 2023, I decided to dig deeper and ran a survey across LinkedIn and social media, asking people to share their experiences. The results confirmed we definitely weren't alone. Over 80% of respondents said their work performance dropped by 20-80% the day after drinking with colleagues, and more than 30% worried that stopping drinking would damage their workplace relationships.
That's how Good Fridaze came to life. Drawing on my professional experience and Master's in Public Health, I've designed workshops specifically for professionals who might never need traditional treatment services, helping raise awareness about alcohol's impact on our careers and lives.
I work with employers too, sharing best practices for supporting colleagues who want to change their relationship with alcohol and showing how long-standing attitudes can shift to benefit everyone's wellbeing.
This isn't counselling, it's not a sobriety campaign, and it's definitely not a lecture. Good Fridaze workshops and consultancy sessions are simply a valuable addition to any socially conscious business's wellbeing toolkit.

In May 2024, I was at the beginning of my second attempt at sobriety and was lucky enough to share my story with Teri on the podcast Sober Stories for Everyday People.
It’s been a while since then, but click the link to hear mine and so many other’s journeys towards living without alcohol.
